Find answers to common questions about our saunas

GENERAL

How do your saunas work?

We specialise in authentic traditional saunas that combine modern engineering with time-tested wellness practices. The system relies on three key elements:

  • The Harvia Heater: Electric elements heat a basket of specialised volcanic stones, warming the ambient air inside the cabin to a deeply relaxing 70–90°C.
  • The Thermal Timber: Whether you select our Nordic Spruce or Red Cedar, the precision-fit interlocking panels act as a heavy-duty insulator, trapping the heat perfectly inside the room.
  • The Steam: Because these are traditional rock heaters, you can pour water over the stones. This creates a cloud of refreshing steam, temporarily raising the humidity and intensifying the cardiovascular and detoxifying benefits.
How do I choose between a 2, 4, or 6-person outdoor sauna?

It all comes down to balancing your available backyard space with your wellness goals:

  • Choose a 2-Person Model if: You want a rapid pre-heat time, a highly energy-efficient footprint, and a private space dedicated to solo or couple recovery.
  • Choose a 4-Person Model if: You want the freedom to stretch out fully or want a versatile size that accommodates family without taking over the entire yard.
  • Choose a 6-Person Model if: You want an expansive, premium wellness hub. It offers maximum headroom and bench space, making it a standout feature for entertainer's backyards or luxury holiday rentals.
What are the differences between the wood types?

Choosing your timber dictates the look, aroma, and feel of your sauna sanctuary. Here is how our three premium options compare:

  • Norwegian Nordic Spruce (The Scandinavian Classic): Our base timber offers a beautiful, light, creamy aesthetic that delivers the authentic, bright look of a traditional Finnish sauna. It is highly durable, structurally stable, and offers an incredible, cost-effective entry into premium outdoor saunas.
  • Canadian Rustic Red Cedar (The Aromatic Classic): Known for its distinct, rich therapeutic aroma and natural thermal insulation. "Rustic" grade features natural wood knots and varied colour pooling (ranging from amber to deep brown), giving the sauna an earthy, character-rich, and organic look.
  • Canadian Clear Red Cedar (The Ultimate Luxury): The gold standard of sauna timbers. It shares the same incredible aroma, decay resistance, and insulation properties as rustic cedar, but is sourced from "clear" structural cuts meaning it is entirely free of knots. This delivers a flawless, sleek, and uniform architectural finish for a true luxury resort vibe.
What is the difference between the Harvia heater types

Both are world-class, genuine Finnish electric heaters, but they are engineered for different layouts and steam preferences:

  • Harvia The Wall (The Space-Saving Classic): As a sleek, wall-mounted unit, this heater is designed to optimise foot room and maximise bench space inside the cabin. It holds a standard payload of volcanic stones, offering ultra-fast pre-heating times and delivering a traditional, intense, and robust wave of dry heat and sharp steam when water is applied.
  • Harvia Glow (The Premium Pillar Luxury): A freestanding, crown-like pillar heater that acts as a stunning architectural centrepiece. Because it holds a massive volume of exposed stones, it provides incredible heat distribution and gives you dual-steam control: throw water on the top for a sharp blast of intense heat, or splash water along the sides of the stone column for a beautifully soft, high-humidity ambient steam.
How do I choose between Manual and WiFi sauna controls?

It all comes down to how you value convenience and pre-heating flexibility:

  • Choose Manual if: You don't mind walking out to your backyard to turn the sauna on 30–45 minutes before you intend to use it. It is a bulletproof, traditional option.
  • Choose WiFi Generic if: You want the convenience of pre-heating the sauna remotely (like firing it up from your couch or right as you finish a workout) without paying a premium for official brand ecosystem features.
  • Choose WiFi Harvia if: You want zero compromises. The official Harvia WiFi system is fully optimised for your premium heater, providing the highest level of electrical safety compliance, real-time cabin temperature readouts on your phone, and flawless, reliable performance backed entirely by Harvia’s global warranty.
How long does a sauna take to heat up, and how hot does it get?

On average, our saunas take between 30 to 45 minutes to reach the optimal traditional sweat temperature of 70–90°C. Because we pair our high-insulation timbers with industry-leading Harvia heaters, the cabin warms efficiently and holds its temperature flawlessly.

Want zero wait time? If you select our WiFi Controls option in the builder above, you can activate your sauna remotely from your smartphone. Fire it up while you are driving home from work or wrapping up a workout, and your personal sanctuary will be sitting at a perfect 80°C the exact moment you step inside.

Are your saunas non-toxic and safe?

Yes, entirely. Every sauna we supply is built strictly with 100% natural, premium-grade timber and contains absolutely zero toxic glues, artificial resins, or chemical treatments. Our cabins are engineered to withstand peak traditional heat cycles while ensuring the air you breathe remains 100% pure, clean, and safe. It is a worry-free sanctuary designed exclusively to support your physical and mental well-being.

How do I maintain my sauna?

Maintaining a Saunas Online cabin is straightforward and takes just a few minutes of care. Here is the recommended routine:

  • After Each Use: Leave the door open slightly and allow the heater to run for an extra 10–15 minutes to completely dry the interior wood.
  • Monthly: Give the floor a quick sweep or vacuum to remove any outdoor dirt brought in by footwear. Wipe down the benches with warm water and a mild, specialized sauna wood cleaner if any minor sweat stains appear.
  • Annually: Inspect the Harvia heater stones. Over years of intense thermal cycling, stones can naturally settle or crack. Simply rinse them down or rotate them to ensure optimal airflow and performance.
  • Exterior Care: To shield the outer wood from rain and sun damage, we recommend treating the external walls with a premium exterior wood deck oil or stain upon assembly, repeating as needed to maintain the original colour.

DELIVERY & INSTALLATION

How do I install the sauna?

We have engineered our saunas to be a stress-free, modular project. Installation is split into three simple steps:

  • 1. The Base: Prepare a flat, solid, well-drained surface. A concrete pad, reinforced timber decking, or level pavers are all perfect foundations.
  • 2. The Build: Your sauna arrives as a precision-fit, flat-packed kit. Thanks to our intuitive interlocking panel design, two adults can easily assemble the structure in just a few hours using basic household tools.
  • 3. The Power: Because we use premium, high-performance Harvia heaters, the final step requires a licensed electrician to hardwire the unit safely to your home’s power supply.
Where is the best place to install my outdoor sauna?

The ideal location for your sauna is any flat, solid, well-drained outdoor surface, such as a concrete slab, paved courtyard, or reinforced timber deck. Do not install the sauna directly on grass or bare dirt, as moisture can damage the timber base over time. For the best experience, place your cabin in a private area of your yard that has easy access to both your home's electrical supply (for hardwiring the heater) and a shower or pool for cool-downs.

How are your saunas delivered? Do they come pre-built?

To guarantee the safest and most cost-effective transport across Australia, our saunas are supplied as premium flat-packed kits. This protects the specialised timber and glass during transit and allows for easy handling around your property. Don't worry, this isn't standard flat-pack furniture. It is a high-end, modular system with pre-cut panels that click together beautifully.

What are your current lead times for delivery?

Because each sauna is prepared to match the specific choices you select in our online builder, our average delivery lead time is currently 6-12 weeks. Lead times can vary depending on your location and seasonal demand.

Do I need a licensed electrician to install my sauna?

Yes, a licensed electrician is required to connect any hardwired electrical components and complete the final electrical installation.

How are your saunas delivered to my home?

All Saunas Online kits are delivered via flatbed or tail-lift trucks to ensure maximum safety for the timber and glass components.

Your delivery will be booked in advance by our carrier and dropped off at the curbside or easily accessible driveway entrance of your property. Please ensure your delivery address has clear, unobstructed access for a large delivery vehicle. Because the kit arrives flat-packed, you don't need heavy machinery to move it, two people can easily open the crate and hand-carry the modular panels directly to the backyard or deck where you plan to build it.

Is local pickup available for your saunas?

Yes, free local pickup is available, operating exclusively from our Melbourne warehouse. Due to the size and heavy weight of our flat-packed sauna kits, collections cannot be made in standard passenger cars or SUVs. You will require a ute, van, or trailer capable of being forklift-loaded. Once your order is placed, our team will coordinate with you directly to schedule a safe pickup time.

Can I pay to have my sauna professionally assembled?

If you are located in Victoria & Tasmania, absolutely! You can select our professional assembly service directly from the delivery and options menu when configuring your sauna. For our customers across the rest of Australia, we operate as a supply-only service to keep freight costs down. Fortunately, our interlocking panel system makes home setup incredibly straightforward, allowing you to easily hire a local tradesperson to assemble the unit on your prepared base.
